Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the title advantage from his teammate by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber third fastest, over half a second off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
